In sticking with our Earth Month theme, let’s take a look at what happens to the garbage inside your roll off dumpster once it leaves your site/home. Every county has different recycling options available to it. In Ocean County, if you mix debris in one container, that becomes a garbage box and 100% of the contents are landfilled. Recyclable materials must be separated and clean. Here is a list of waste streams that can currently be recycled in Ocean County, NJ:
· Concrete, asphalt, stone, brick and dirt; these items are used to make underlay for new road construction.
· Leaves are composted to create topsoil.
· Brush is chipped up and wood chips are made for residents and landscapers.
· Metals are recycled and sold for scrap value.
· Tires are shredded and used for many new tech type materials such as running tracks, playground safety mats, etc.
· Gas and oil are recycled, cleaned and re-used in industrial applications.
· Refrigerant from air conditioners, freezers and refrigerators is cleaned and re-used.
· Paper is recycled and re-used for new product production.
· Plastic, glass, newsprint and other normal household recyclables are sent into mainstream recycling markets for profit sales.
· Methane gas produced by the county landfill is captured and used to generate power for the community.
· Clean, untreated lumber is shredded and sold for fuel for production plants.
· Electronic parts are salvaged for their precious metals.
As you can see, there are quite a few things that can be successfully recycled here in our county. Keeping items such as those listed above out of your debris container saves you space and helps the environment. I hope this was informative in helping you plan your roll off dumpster rental.
Be safe, be well and most of all BE HAPPY!
