Will a Roll Off Dumpster Damage my Driveway?

This is a VERY common question. In fact, I hear it every day:

“So, will the container damage your driveway?”

drivewaydarkblueThe answer is “I don’t know”.

Not the answer you want to hear but it is the truth. The fact is, I have been in the roll-off business for over 14 years and I can count on my fingers how many driveways have been damaged by a roll off dumpster over the years. That’s not many when you consider how many thousands of containers we deliver.

Some simple steps can ensure your property is properly protected.

  1. Tell me what your driveway is made of and ask me what I suggest.
  2. Request we put the container on wood. Most times, we can accommodate your request for wood under the container and even supply the wood for you. However, we cannot guarantee that we will have wood available for your delivery so we do recommend you supply wood just in case. Unfortunately, the trucks leave our yard in the morning and we can only carry a certain number of sets of wood on the truck each day and therefore we couldn’t guarantee that there would be wood on the truck by the time the truck arrived at your site. If you wish to provide wood, I suggest you provide 4, 2×6’s in 3 foot lengths and we will take care of the rest.
  3. Many times, people request that the container be placed in the street. Many towns prohibit this so we can do this only if you get the permission of the local authorities.
  4. Do not overload the container with heavy material. Many of the damaged driveways we have experienced were due to the containers being loaded with heavy materials and not being placed on wood. Imagine what 25 tons of concrete concentrated onto 4 spots under the wheels will do to asphalt!

I can tell you that with proper precautions, your property will look just as good as when you got the dumpster delivered. Precaution + Professionalism = Results.

Be safe, be well and most of all BE HAPPY!
